Founded in 1980, theDepartment of Chemical and Material Engineering offers four undergraduate specialties, i.e., Chemical Engineering and Technology, Inorganic Non-metallic Materials Engineering, Powder Material Science and Engineering and Energy Chemical Engineering.

Now the department has 15 professors, 10 associate professors, and five visiting professors from Germany and Korea and other countries. And the students number total up to 1,340.

At present, laboratories cover 10,000 square meters. The department has established Laboratory of Energy Chemical Industry and Powder Material, a Key Laboratory of Membrane Material and Membrane Process, Additive Manufacturing Collaborative Innovation Center and Green Process Collaborative Innovation Center which is co-constructed with Institute of Process Engineering of Chinese Academy of Sciences. These laboratories are well equipped with advanced precision measuring and analyzing instruments,such as nuclear magnetic resonance and scanning electron microscope, which play an important role in teaching, scientific research and college students’ innovation and entrepreneurship.

The department has established international cooperation with universities from Germany, Britain, Korea, etc., which facilitates students’ further study in these countries.

In the pastthree years, the research teams have participated in “National 973 Program” and “National 863 Program” and have undertaken 10 projects of Natural Science Research Foundation of China, 10 projects of Provincial Natural Science Foundation and one key research project sponsored by Ministry of Education and four key research projects sponsored by the Provincial Education Department. More than 700 academic papers have been published, including over 500 SCI or EI papers.

As a result of teaching reforms and international cooperation, the students won a lot of gold and silver awards in College Students Challenge Cup Business Plan Competition, both at the national and provincial level and gained the first prize in the National College students Chemical Design Competition.
